Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Leadership oversight of the Underwriting (UW) team and related lending functions.

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain leadership role by assisting Chief Lending Officer, Lending team, and Credit Union team to achieve required, expected, and necessary process improvements to provide the highest quality member experience.
  • Leadership oversight of critical UW team functions including:
    • Application queue management
    • Team adherence to service standards and UW expectations
    • Quality control post-closing review of approved and denied loan files by team member
    • Development and tracking of key data and metrics pertaining to application volume and production; approval/denial ratios; loan demographics; credit tier penetration; loan quality issues like first payment defaults (FPD’s), early delinquency and charge-off
    • Leadership, management, decision authority and due diligence of MBL program
    • Training of the Underwriting team; training to the rest of the Credit Union related to application quality and cross-selling; and financial education to our membership related to credit score management and improvement
    • Underwriting performance related to both direct and indirect loans
  • Vendor management and contractual enforcement of critical requirements such as service level agreement, pricing, and invoice accuracy.
  • Application support and enhancement of necessary loan systems (i.e. Akcelerant and Corelation)
  • Planning and completion of team practices, training, and procedures development in accordance with policy and overall Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Execution of weekly performance coaching including development of necessary reports, metric reporting, team member meetings and performance feedback such as on loan file or funding reviews and other processing functional efficiencies.
  • Support of 365Live phone calls and queue.
  • Expected to function as backup to the CLO for the Credit Union during unexpected emergencies.
  • Responsibility and ownership of overall compliance of functions related to the underwriting functions of the Credit Union.

 

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completion of staff scheduling, staffing levels, and overall resource management of the Underwriting team to meet Credit Union performance standards.
  • Responsibilities include training Loan Interviewers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversight of workflow queue management.
  • Development and implementation of Underwriting Training programs to enhance member service and promote staff development.
  • Development of career paths within the Underwriting Team and in conjunction with other Lending teams, to promote professional development and promotional opportunities.
  • Consistent recognition of outstanding team member performance such as the 5 Stars R Us emails.
  • Consistent execution of the loan policy and procedure including University of Lending principles within our lending and processing functions.
  • Quality control reporting of processing related issues or obstacles to eliminate unnecessary delays and ensure timely loan closings/funding in accordance with our performance expectations.
  • Assists CLO and Lending Leadership Team with development and overall coaching of the Lending Team and relevant functional team members such as Financial Services Representatives (FSR’s) to maximize performance levels, meet required turn times, and promote efficient workflow and superior member service.
  • Assists Lending team members in efficiently and effectively processing the various activities involved in credit granting and performs such additional duties as might be assigned from time-to-time.
  • Assists Lending team members, as necessary with questions/concerns regarding the preparation of credit information necessary to establish credit limit, including such factors as applicant’s assets, credit experience, and personal references, based on predetermined standards.
  • Accurate record retention and enforcement of the related regulations that impact our Clean Desk Policy to ensure the security of our member’s personal data.
  • Responsibilities primarily include training underwriters; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsibilities can/will migrate to all parts of the Lending Team.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7-10 years of related experience and/or training
  • Minimum of 5 years of loan operations experience
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to team members and members of the organization
  • Ability to operate Credit Union software and hardware necessary to inquire to member accounts, process and underwrite applications and other account information required in the member service function
  • Experience in monitoring delinquency trends and portfolio management
  • Holds a firm grasp of industry knowledge and best practices
  • Familiar with the differences in products and services offered by other financial institutions to those offered by the Credit Union
