    SUMMARY:

    The Student Branch Financial Services Representative will be the on-site representative at the designated school(s) responsible for operating and managing the student branches in conjunction with Student Branch Manager.  This team member will interact with the school administrators, the students and the Student Branch Manager on a daily basis to run a successful school program.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serve as the liaison between the school(s) and the Student Branch Manager and keeps the students and administrators informed of events activities and other key situations. Must promote good working relationships Michigan First team and Team Leaders, providing assistance and training needed, and appropriately informing the Branch Manager of area activities.  Must have a strong relationship with students and School Administrators.
    • Responsible for the student branch meeting or exceeding all membership, sales, loans and other targets.  Must meet individual monthly goals.
    • Responsible for the training, development and ongoing leadership of the student Team Members.  They must be able to motivate the students to execute all elements of our sales and service program. 
    • Determine our members' financial services needs by reviewing credit reports and interviewing members in-depth to help assess their needs; Communicates services and products that address these needs. Sells services and products, such as mortgages and IRAs, directly to credit union members.
    • Must attend and participate in school activities or programs, during or after school hours.  Interact with all students at the school to market our programs and educate students on Michigan First. 
    • Assist in the teller area and other areas of the branch as needed.  Performs transactional work for members such as opening accounts, closing accounts, Check 21, issuing new debit cards, balancing ATM’s and MoneyWorks, completing payroll deductions, renting safety deposit boxes, ordering checks, and taking stop payment orders.
    • Take loan applications and closes loans as needed; Receive loan payments and service charge payments; Offer loan recommendations that result in completed loan notes.
    • Ensures that member services functions are efficiently, effectively, and accurately performed in accordance with established policies, standards, and security procedures.
    • Consistently uses all stages of the Michigan First sales and service standards to cross-sell Credit Union products and services.
    • Maintain good business relations with members, courteously and promptly resolving member problems or questions, and effectively assisting with member account problems. 
    • Guarantee that required reports and records are accurate, complete, and timely. Ensures the Code of Conduct, Core Values, Isms and other aspects of the culture are upheld and encouraged by all team members within the ES team area. Be an advocate of the Michigan First culture, supporting diversity, philosophy and other Credit Union initiatives.
    • Becomes/is an advocate of The Michigan First Way, supporting all facets of it, including complete fulfillment of Our Promise, 5 STARS Service, SOLVE IT and our ISMs.  Fosters a positive demeanor and image through professional representation in all contacts with both, team members and members.  Consistently reflects and displays each of our “ISMs” in daily job performance, as well as in all business interactions while executing on our goals and initiatives.  Learns and utilizes EMEC (Every Member’s Experience Counts) in day-to-day responsibilities when communicating with members only.
    • Maintains and conveys the Credit Union's professional reputation; Follows a professional appearance, dress, and attitude and all other Credit Union guidelines.

    Qualifications

    • Must have exceptional customer service skills and interviewing skills including the ability to assess customer needs, meet the quality of standards of Michigan First, and provide member satisfaction. 
    • Persuasive personality to influence member decisions. Must be able to learn and know the services and products of Michigan First and know their appropriate applications.
    • Needs critical thinking skills to identify the best services and products for members by sorting through solutions and choosing the best alternatives.
    • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including use of proper grammar and the pronunciation of words.  
    • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
    • Active listening skills such as understanding member points being made,  asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting when inappropriate.
    • The use of computers and computer systems to enter, access, and retrieve data and the ability to use a financial calculator.
    • High school graduate or equivalent.  Associate’s degree in business or related field is preferred.
    • Understanding of financial institution services and products.
    • Branch hours 10:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. – Average team member hours 35-37 hours.
    • One to three years of sales experience, preferably in a financial institution or related field.
    • At least one year experience working at Michigan First in a FSR/Teller position preferred.
    • Knowledge of consumer lending is a plus.
    • Experience in an educational environment strongly preferred. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to students, faculty, administrators, parents or others groups involved in the school or community. Delivery systems will include Power Point or other Audio Visual formats.
    • Must have full knowledge of transaction system or ability to quickly learn (Keystone).
    • Student FSRs will coordinate their personal time off with the school’s schedule to minimize need for additional support from other sources.
    • Must be aware of the history and culture of Michigan First and our historical role in the educational community. 
    • Must be able to work with the school community to build awareness and grow membership. 
    • May work in other Credit Union positions during the summer months or as needed.
    • Must be able to drive to and from their school branch to the office or other branches.
